We have an incredibly dedicated team of first aid volunteers in minis and juniors who provide first aid support to players in all teams.
All first aiders are trained and certified in Emergency First Aid in Rugby Union (EFARU) which has been developed by the RFU specifically to meet the needs of players. Our team of first aiders is responsible for providing pitch-side over at both training and matches.
Locating First Aid Support
Your team first aid support will be known to you and this where you should initially seek first aid support. However, if that person isn't immediately available, please approach first aiders from the closest team who will be happy to assist.
Parent responsibilities
Please do not go onto the pitch if your child is hurt. We understand that this may feel uncomfortable, but protocols are in place to ensure the safety of everyone. Wait until the coach and first aider signal for you and then follow the advice you are given. We know kids can get upset when they're asked to sit out during a game but it's important that they do so if asked.
If the first aider is concerned about your child's injuries they may ask to you follow up with a health professional.
Concussion
As a parent of a small rugby player, you need to understand concussion.
Concussion is one of the most common injuries in rugby. Any child identified as having concussion will be immediately removed from the pitch and will follow the Graduated Return to Play (GRTP) process. Full details of this can be found on the RFU website
Parents play a vital role in the prevention and management of concussion. We recommend you read through the guidelines on the RFU website and watch the headcase training.
Club defibrillator
Leamington own a defibrillator which is located in the clubhouse on the wall in the changing room corridor. Signs in the clubhouse will direct you to the right spot but it's worth taking note of there it is next time you're in the club house so you can get to it quickly in an emergency.
